Everyone at Citizens Advice Broxtowe would like to wish our readers a happy New Year. It is not the start to 2021 that we had hoped for. We urge you all to stay safe and follow the National Lockdown rules. In line with the requirements, our services will once again move to remote contacts. Our staff and volunteers are ready to take your calls and we have updated contact details on our home page.

Hope is on the way in the shape of the vaccine programme. Remember, please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine, they will contact you.

Details of the vaccine programme in Nottinghamshire can be viewed here.

Many of you will be struggling with the prospect of a third national lockdown in less than a year. Remember there is a lot of help available from Nottinghamshire Mind and residents of Broxtowe needing ongoing help with their mental health and practical problems can contact our Broxtowe Wellbeing Hub. If you’re struggling to cope with the challenges that life brings on a regular basis, this is the project for you.

We are grateful to Broxtowe Borough Council for helping us continue our work supporting the people of Stapleford through their COVID-19 Additional Restrictions Grant. In response to the pandemic we have set up a dedicated advice line for people living in the area.

Last year we saw an unprecedented spike in new claims for Universal Credit (UC). In total Citizens Advice Broxtowe helped 1,177 clients with UC related problems and a further 882 clients with problems related to other benefits during 2020.

The total value of new UC income amounted to over £1.6 million. Essential resources to those being made redundant or finding their income reduced as a result of the pandemic. Our dedicated Help to Claim team assisted 1,083 clients (see the chart to the left) with new claims for Universal Credit. They can help by telephone and webchat.

With a new national lockdown announced this week we expect to see a second spike in demand for our Help to Claim service. Our team are working remotely and ready to provide support to those who need it. Click on the link below to find our more.
