The Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr Janet Patrick, has chosen Citizens Advice Broxtowe as her Mayoral Charity. Janet, knows first hand the importance of the work Citizens Advice Broxtowe carry out with some of the Borough’s most vulnerable residents. Each year Citizens Advice Broxtowe help over 8,000 residents with the problems they face. Read more about the work of Citizens Advice Broxtowe in their Impact Report. Local Citizens Advice are independent charities responsible for raising their own funds.

In order to raise funds for the Mayoral Charity and the profile of Citizens Advice Broxtowe our Development Contractor, Neil Clurow, has undertaken to ride the epic climb of Pico de as Nieves in Gran Canaria. Neil explains, “the ride is no light undertaking, at 1,949 meters the route is a challenge for even the most accomplished rider. I hope I’m up to it!

Neil is hoping that his effort will highlight the important work of Citizens Advice Broxtowe and any money raised will go towards providing the support local people need in times of crisis. It is also an opportunity to highlight the beautiful island of Gran Canaria. Neil who has links to the island comments, “the wonderful people of Gran Canaria have suffered so much during the pandemic with it’s economy devastated by the virtual cancellation of international tourism. Hopefully by following me on the route, via our Twitter feed people will be inspired to visit the island once tourism is resumed”

San Bartolomé de Tirajana

The route will take Neil from sea level in Maspalomas through the beautiful mountain villages, including Fataga, San Bartolomé and past the famous Roque Nublo at 1,813 meters where the road is at its steepest, over 20% in places. Watch a video about the route here. Cycling to the peak and back represents 60 miles of cycling with a total elevation gain just under 3,000 meters. The ride will take place 9.30am (UK time) on Saturday 23rd January subject to weather conditions.
