Citizens Advice helping one person every two minutes with a redundancy issue
The article goes on to explain, “Between 8-12 June the charity’s frontline advisers helped 1,200 people with 2,000 redundancy issues, i.e. one person every two minutes. The charity has given one-to-one advice to 8,600 people on redundancy issues between 23 March and 12 June, a 199% increase on the same period last year. Citizens Advice’s redundancy webpages had 672,946 pageviews between 23 March and 12 June. On 12 June three of the top-five most-viewed advice pages were redundancy pages. CA say that while the Job Retention Scheme has so far prevented many redundancies, with more job losses on the horizon, the need for government support remains crucial.“
This evidence is consistent with our own local report in June when we highlighted that; “Since the lockdown on 23rd March to 20th May Citizens Advice Broxtowe experienced an 158% increase in employment issues compared to the same period last year, 222 in 2020 compared to 140 in 2019. The bulk of issues relate to pay and entitlement, redundancy, dismissal, and the furlough scheme.“
